R. G. loaded with gifts
Please pray for our grandson R. G. Gray III.  He will undergo his 24th surgery on Tuesday.  People from the church flooded him with gifts and he was happy.  He is going to have what he calls his HANDSOME SURGERY.

R. G. recently graduated from Pine Tree Special Ed High-School and will turn 21 on May 7. He has been such a blessing to all of us. He has the mind of a child, but has a great outlook on his life and life.  He has a dog named Tanner and a job for him when he comes back home! GOTTA LOVE FAMILY!

Pastor Dan Suttles

Pastor Dan Suttles is a 2005 graduate of TEXAS BAPTIST COLLEGE and has been pastor of LIBERTY BAPTIST CHURCH of Pigeon Forge, TN., for 6 years and is doing a wonderful job of reaching his community with the Gospel.  The church has grown significantly since last year. The church celebrated its 45th year of existence on Sunday. God gave us 6 salvation decisions, 4 professions, and 1 baptism. I taught Sunday school, preached both services Sunday, and preached tonight at 7 pm. I preached my sermon "WHY YOU SHOULD BE A PERSONAL SOUL WINNER." The altars were filled before the invitation was given.

Lakecrest Seniors
Tonight when I pulled into the parking lot at the LIBERTY BAPTIST CHURCH I noticed a big bus from LAKECREST BAPTIST CHURCH of Waterford, MI.   Dr. Marc Dalton pastors that great church.  He, his wife, and the seniors from their school were on a trip to Pigeon Forge, TN., and took time to come to the church service. This is a great soul winning pastor who pastors a great soul winning church. GOTTA LOVE SOUL WINNING CHURCHES!

I will be driving to Tyler to catch a flight to DFW and then on to Knoxville, TN., to preach for one of our TEXAS BAPTIST COLLEGE grads Pastor Dan Suttles.  This is a wonderful man of God with a great family.  He was called to his home church the LIBERTY BAPTIST CHURCH after the retirement of their pastor.  He and his family are great personal soul winners.

I will be teaching and preaching on Sunday. Monday at noon there will be a luncheon for all of the area pastors.  Then on Monday night there will be a special 7 pm service at the church.  I am looking forward to being there.  If you are in the area please take time to be with us. You will not be disappointed.

Yesterday afternoon I went soul winning and lined up some for this coming Sunday for my home church at the LONGVIEW BAPTIST TEMPLE. This is the last Sunday of a 5 week Sunday school campaign.

Last Sunday LBT had 62 visitors Sunday morning and a full building!  At their annual push for Easter week end they had 1,800 saved with 373 of those baptized.  WOW! I guess the reported demise of LBT is a little premature! Ha!  If the critics would spend as much time using their tongues to lead the unsaved to Christ we could have revival in America. GOTTA LOVE SOUL WINNING!

LBT Wednesday Night
I retired March 1, 2009, as pastor of LONGVIEW BAPTIST TEMPLE of Longview, TX.  My wife has had 34 surgeries and is in poor health.  I felt she was my number one responsibility.  Thus, I entered into a new phase of writing books, conducting conferences, providing consulting to local churches, and continuing my preaching around the country.

I have written 31 books with the latest WHEN PRINCIPLE WAS KING being by far the best seller of them all. Thousands have been sold and only a few remaining of the first printing. PARENTING SKILLS is the number two best seller followed by BITTERNESS and DEALING WITH PERSONAL CONFLICTS.  You can go to SOLVECHURCHPROBLEMS.COM to look over all of my books and order them through that web site.

The JUST A THOUGHT series volumes I - IV  are available in ebook form on SMASHWORDS.COM.  JUST A THOUGHT volumes V - X will be posted soon.  Just enter Bob Gray Sr. and you will see the books.  Kindle has not yet put them all on line, but we are assured they will in the near future.  Now, they are just about all put into ebook form on SMASHWORDS.COM and Kindle.

My schedule is booked solid for meetings. However, sometimes I am able to attend the Wednesday night Bible study at LONGVIEW BAPTIST TEMPLE and on one occasion I was able to preach for my son Dr. Bob II on a Sunday. The Sunday I preached the building was full both downstairs and in the balcony.  Recently in their annual push on Easter week end the people led 1,800 souls to Christ and baptized 373.  The church is as strong if not stronger than ever!

I am often asked how Dr. Bob II is doing and my response is always GREAT because it is GREAT!  There are some who are hoping for some strange reason that LBT will not stay aggressively after souls and continue to grow.  I cannot understand that mind-set.  I pray for growth even among those who do not like me! Of course, to know me is to love me! Ha!

Recently, a preacher said to my son in a pathetic voice baptized in a  depressed pathos, "I hear things are not going very well."  WHAT?  It was if he were hoping that things were deteriorating.  Non-sense! We need every soul winning church to continue to win souls regardless whether we like each other or not. I applaud any independent Baptist church who stays by the inspired KING JAMES BIBLE and after the unsaved! GOTTA LOVE THE OLD TIME RELIGION!

Dr. Tracy Fowler
Stacy Withers
Stacy & Mrs. G
Mrs. G & Mrs. Fowler
Mrs. G was able to fly with me to Columbus, OH, for our meeting with the HERITAGE BAPTIST CHURCH of Canal, Winchester, OH.  As you know her health is not good and a recent MRI was not a good report concerning her spine.  However, she wanted to take this trip.  She was unable to attend Sunday morning, but was able to Sunday night. The people were very gracious to her.

Stacy Withers is a 2003 graduate of TEXAS BAPTIST COLLEGE and is the Music Coordinator for Dr. Fowler. The music was excellent as always. This dear lady is one of the best!

Sunday was a great day with the buildings being full and with several different services being conducted on property.  The LORD gave us 10 salvation decisions. I taught my lesson on "GRACE & MERCY" in Sunday school and preached my sermon "YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN!"   On Sunday night I preached my sermon "TAKE UP YOUR CROSS!" The altars were full and the Holy Spirit certainly had liberty as usual in this church.

No need to compromise and bring God down to man in order to reach man.  Rather if Christ be lifted up he will draw all men unto him.  Thus, we are to raise man up to God and not bring God down to man.  These rock n roll shows in Baptist churches is a disgrace to the cause of Christ and literally quenches the work of the Holy Spirit.  No conviction no conversion!  Jesus pointed out the 5 husbands to the woman at the well in John chapter 4 and the fact she was shacked up at that very moment. We need Hell Fire Damnation preaching with a tear in the eye!  GOTTA LOVE THE OLD TIME RELIGION!

Saturday, April 21, 2012

Mrs. G was able to travel with me this week on my Ohio preaching trip.  She had another MRI three weeks ago and the doctor told us the spine is still deteriorating and there is really nothing that can be done.  She has good days and bad days.  The good ones are when I am gone while the bad ones are when I am home! Ha!

I will be preaching at the HERITAGE BAPTIST CHURCH just outside of Columbus, OH, in Canal Winchester tomorrow and Monday.  Dr. Tracy Fowler is the pastor. This is a soul winning church with a heart for people. I will be preaching Sunday am and pm.  Also, there will be a Monday night service at 7 pm.  If you are in the area please stop by.  The services are always exciting.

The INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCE is coming to the Atlanta, GA, area on October 28-30, 2012.  I hope you will place those dates on your calendar and plan on being with us.  There will be classes taught on Tuesday morning from 9-11.  Classes for pastors, staff, ladies, laymen, youth, and children.

Pastor Terrill Hopkins who pastors the HERITAGE BAPTIST CHURCH of Locust Grove, GA, will be the   host pastor.  If you have not had a chance to visit this great church you must put that on your list of things to do.  I believe Pastor Hopkins is one of the great unkept secrets in independent Baptist circles. They have a beautiful new auditorium and have been blessed with many souls coming to Christ. This is the place where old time religion still lives.

If you will go to the end of this email and click on "read more..." you then can subscribe to make sure you receive the BLOG consistently.   I trust the BLOG is an encouragement to you.

Who would have ever believed this? Our grandson R. G. Gray III will be graduating on May 22, 2012 from Pine Tree High-School's Special Ed Department. He will turn 21 on May 7.  He is the light of our family and church family.

He was born during one of our NATIONAL SOUL WINNING CLINICS.  Dr. Jack Hyles preached his sermon, "WHERE BE ALL THE MIRACLES" at the time of R. G.'s birth with none of us realizing what was about to happen at the hospital.

R. G. was not suppose to live let alone walk and talk.  At age 20, soon to be 21, he has the mind of a child and looks at the rest of world as if they are abnormal with him being the only normal one in the world. Ha! Dr. Hyles prayed over our grandson and as far as we are concerned is the miracle that Dr. Hyles referred to.

Please pray for R. G. for he will have another major surgery on May 1.  By the way, he has a job interview on April 19, 2012. Can you believe that? GOTTA LOVE FAMILY!

Sunday Morning
Sunday I had the honor of preaching at the MOUNT OLIVET BAPTIST CHURCH of Lexington, KY.   This church is pastored by my friend Pastor Dwayne Walker.  He started the church 19 years ago and the obvious hand of God is on this dear place.

Sunday chairs had to be put out for the service and God gave us 15 saved, 13 professions, and 12 baptized.  I taught in Sunday school my lesson "FORGIVENESS."  I preached Sunday  morning my sermon, "I HAVE FALLEN AND I CAN GET BACK UP!"  Sunday night I preached my sermon "EVERYTHING RISES OR FALLS ON FOLLOWSHIP."

Monday Night Service
Monday night Dr. Jeff Fugate joined us and preached first.  He preached a great message on "THINGS ARE NOT ALWAYS WHAT THEY APPEAR TO BE."  He encouraged God's people to keep their eyes on the prize.

This is really an amazing thing that God is doing in Lexington, KY.  Dr. Fugate came to pastor the CLAYS MILL ROAD BAPTIST CHURCH 21 years ago and Pastor Walker came here 19 years ago to start the MOUNT OLIVET BAPTIST CHURCH.  These are two great churches in the same city working not against each other, but with each other.

Since these two men have been in KY there are multiple local churches that have been started and Dr. Fugate mentioned how there were 5,000 more people attending church today than there were 21 years ago because of the soul winning and church planting.

I preached Monday night my sermon "LET'S GO SOUL WARNING." The spirit was phenomenal and the response at the altar call was wonderful. Come join us today at 10 and tonight at 7 if you have the opportunity.

Saturday, April 14, 2012

Donnie Vanskike will be driving me to Tyler, TX, to catch a flight to DFW and then on to Lexington, KY.  I will be preaching for my friend Pastor Dwayne Walker who pastors the MOUNT OLIVE BAPTIST CHURCH of Lexington.

I will be teaching Sunday school and preaching both Sunday services.  Also, I will be preaching Monday and Tuesday night at 7 pm.  If you are in the area please come and join us for some old fashioned church services.

Recently I talked to a pastor whose heart has been broken by staff members, including his own family  members, who left and started a church in the area with an Emergent Church philosophy.  I have for a long time wondered about these young ones who seem to know more than J. Frank Norris, Dr. Dallas Billington, Dr. Jack Hyles, Dr. Russell Anderson, Dr. Lee Roberson, Evangelist Lester Roloff, Dr. John R. Rice and others whom God used to turn the tide for soul winning in America in their generation.

I thought for a long time these folks chasing the Emergent Church dream were simply attempting to draw a crowd.  After watching a video clip of one of the services of these who split from a blessed independent Baptist church in the Chicago, ILL., area, pastored by a friend, I am convinced it is because they are simply fleshly oriented.

What these young pups do not understand is they have been and will be conduits for serious doctrinal error.  Please go to INDEPENDENTBAPTIST.COM for an upcoming series about the dangers.  The truth is the music with the guitars and bongos is horrible. I would rather listen to the real thing than this noise.  It is EMBARRASSING to the music world, let alone to our LORD!

I noticed a girl in the "praise team" with a short skirt on the left of the platform and she kept tugging at her short skirt. I wondered, "WHY?," it's too late to worry about modesty now.

These are Hyles-Anderson grads who left a great man of God and are acting out in a nightclub fashion in an attempt to not reach the lost, but to justify there love of a worldly lifestyle.

Maybe bragging on Pastor G of the Richmond Outreach Center of Richmond, VA., from the platform of First Baptist Church of Hammond, IN., has back fired! This dancing and rapping so-called church has been uplifted and this is the result! Shame! The separation aspect from the world does not become stricter from this point on.  Loose as a goose in a hail storm!

You may point out some TEXAS BAPTIST COLLEGE grads who are just as spiritually dumb, but it will not be because the pulpit of LONGVIEW BAPTIST TEMPLE bragged on such non-sense!

Sunday Morning
Tuesday Night
Dr. Anderson at Luncheon
Dr. Paul Duckett Sr
Noon Luncheon
Tuesday Morning
TBC Grads
Sunday Morning

This was the very first INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCE this past week end at the FAITH BAPTIST CHURCH of Oak Creek, WI., just outside of Milwaukee, WI.

Dr. Dean Noonan is the pastor of the church he was saved in, served as a youth director and now for these past 20 years has  been their pastor.

This past week end there were 76 folks who trusted Christ in all of the services and 781 in attendance. The buildings were packed beyond capacity and the spirit was excellent. This is a tremendous example of a church who stays with the old time religion and is aggressively reaching the Milwaukee area with the Gospel.

After Sunday night I was able to have a picture taken of 6 of the 8 TEXAS BAPTIST COLLEGE grads who are working in FAITH BAPTIST CHURCH and myself.  TBC has 420 grads serving in churches like this throughout the land.

This was the first INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCE and hopefully there will be many more around our nation.  We opened up the conference on Monday night with a full building and 33 pastors in attendance. More came in on Tuesday and by Tuesday night there were 54 different pastors who were able to attend the conference.

Dr. Russell Anderson spoke at the noon luncheon to us about "YOU STAY SUCCESSFUL THE WAY YOU BECAME SUCCESSFUL."  He is such an encouragement to everyone. He has a tremendous heart for the things of God.   Independent Baptists have a great heritage and it must not be squandered for popularity sake.

Dr. Paul Duckett Sr. set the atmosphere with his music. The choir was excellent and the music was not the kind the "Emerging Church" crowd is pushing.  God deliver us from this new generation of young fundamentalist who are ruining the name of independent Baptist.

Pastor Todd Poynter and Dr. Shelton Smith opened up the conference with two tremendous down home sermons.  The atmosphere was electrifying. Tuesday morning we conducted classes for pastors, staff, ladies, teens, and youth. We assembled back in the auditorium where Pastor Brent Lenetine reminded us of the old fashioned method going soul winning door to door and not giving up on personal soul winning. His church in Rio Rancho, NM, has grown in 24 years from his family to averaging 600 through aggressive soul winning and not "Saturday Night Live Concerts."  Hey, you would almost believe personal soul winning still works if you will work it!

Pastor Poynter had 585 last Sunday after starting 17 years ago with his family just outside of Indianapolis, IN. He also reiterated the way to do it is hard work, but fruitful work of personal soul winning.  There is not an easy way to do a hard job.

Dr. Russell Anderson preached on the "120 CLUB" on Tuesday night and took us to Acts chapter 2 and explained what is required to be a member of the "120 CLUB." It was great! I closed out the conference with my sermon "IS THERE A PLACE CALLED HELL?"

I will keep you updated as to where the next (Lord willing) INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCE will be held. Please go to INDEPENDENTBAPTIST.COM and subscribe to our newsletter. Pastors check out the 3 months of free advertising opportunity.  GOTTA LOVE THE OLD TIME RELIGION!

This is just too early for anyone to be up. I thought I was retired, but the truth is I am just "re-tired." Ha! It's 2 am and I have gotten coffee, put some cream in it, had my quiet time, and this still small voice from the bed room asked for some coffee. Did not mean to wake her up, but she has coffee and is happy for now.

I will be driving to Tyler, TX, where I will catch a flight and go on to DFW and then on to Milwaukee, WI.  I am looking forward to this first and hopefully historic INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCE with many to follow.

95 % of our churches are in rural areas and this "mega-church" mentality is not reality.  It is interesting when God speaks of Himself as the source of "increase" He does specify or attach numerical value to the word "increase."  In fact He refers in Scripture to the lowest number of "one" being the source of Heaven's joy. Whether it be a big "increase" or a small "increase" they are both of God and we must be careful not to condemn one because in so doing we are condemning both.

By the way thank the LORD for every local church of whom God felt He could trust with a large ministry, but BIG is not always BETTER.  No pastor should feel inferior at all because of the size of his ministry. I can still hear Dr. Jack Hyles rehearsing what his professor said to him, "Mr. Hyles, there is no such thing as a  little church!"

I believe a revival of soul winning and Sunday school is the secret to a resurgence of local churches that will never make earth's headlines, but will make news in Heaven.  One of these miracles is found in Mocksville, NC, where Dr. Darrell Cox's church is running 1,000 in a town of 800.  The size of the city does not matter when it comes to God's work. The press does not cover this story, but God certainly has His eye on them.

Classes will be conducted on Tuesday at 9 am at this first INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCE in WI for pastors, staff, laymen, ladies, and youth.  If we can focus on our part of personal soul winning and strengthening our Sunday schools we can once again see the results by focusing on our responsibilities.

Please join us in prayer for God to do something to all of us to punch the re-set button! We need Holy Spirit power in order to reach mankind with the Gospel. GOTTA LOVE SOUL WINNING!

Sunday Morning
This morning I had the honor of preaching for my good friend Pastor Todd Poynter who pastors the GREENWOOD BIBLE BAPTIST CHURCH just outside of Indianapolis, IN. He and his family started this great church 14 years ago.

Pastor Poynter grew up under the ministry of Dr. Jack Hyles in Hammond, IN.   As a lad he would sit in the Sunday school classes and auditorium pews with his family and absorb the truths from God's  Word. He was a part of the "Father-Son Soul Winning" program and learned at the feet of his dad and Dr. Hyles the christian life. This is one of the great and up coming churches in our nation. They are averaging 500 with a very successful Sunday school program.

George Quigley
After my Sunday school lesson a man walked up to me and introduced himself as George Quigley. He mentioned to me that he was a member of FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH when Dr. Hyles became pastor and shared some wonderful stories about Dr. Hyles. He is a retired policeman and told me he was there from the beginning and even was a part of the police escort at the funeral for Dr. Hyles.  It is men like this who make a ministry work. GOTTA LOVE THE SAINTS WHO PAID THE PRICE!

On April 8-10, 2012, the INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCE will be coming to the Milwaukee, WI., area.  I hope you will take time out of your busy schedule to attend. If you are a pastor there are a few free motel rooms available for you and your wife for Monday and Tuesday. Please call 414-301-9319 or 414-248-1879.

Dr. Shelton Smith, Dr. Russell Anderson, Pastor Todd Poynter, Pastor Brent Lenetine, myself, and Dr. Paul Duckett Sr. will be there.

I wish every independent Baptist church member could hear the singing and congregational singing by Dr. Paul Duckett Sr. He led singing for J. Frank Norris, Dr. Dallas Billington, and many other greats of their day. This is spirit-filled singing! I have a picture of Dr. Duckett Sr. standing in the middle of 6,000 adults and a 350 adult voice choir at a Dallas Billington meeting in Akron, Ohio. God is not a respecter of persons or generations. God wants to do it again!

That which we all enjoyed in the 60's and 70's in a movement across this nation of independent Baptist churches is not over. The same truths exist today. We do not need a contemporary platform to attract people to the preaching of the Word of God.  "WHAT HAS BEEN DONE CAN BE DONE."  "HERE, WE GROW AGAIN" is the theme.  This will be a time of spiritual refreshment!  Come join us in Milwaukee. GOTTA LOVE THE OLD TIME RELIGION!
