GREAT WEEKEND IN NORTH CAROLINA

Yesterday I flew into the Raleigh-Durham airport and was greeted by Pastor Charles Hamilton and his wife Annette. I have known this dear couple for almost 30 years. He pastors the GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH of Cedar Grove, NC. This was a great weekend with 29 saved, 6 professions, and 2 baptisms.

I preached from Psalm 37:24 and Proverbs 24:16 my sermon "I HAVE FALLEN AND I CAN GET BACK UP!"

1) The Just Man Falls
2) The Just Man Falls Many Times
3) The Just Man Gets Back up
4) The Just Man Develops A Habit Of Getting Back Up
5) The Just Man Is Perfected By Both Falling & Getting Back Up
6) The Just Man Doesn't Blame Others & Wait On Others To Pick Him Back Up
7) The Just Man Ends Up On His Feet

While I was on the plane at DFW waiting in my seat for the plane to finish loading its passengers I noticed a group of folks with North Carolina State jackets that had "Wrestling Team" on the jackets. As they passed by I spoke to the one who looked like their coach. His name is Carter Jordan. He became the coach of the Wolfpack Wrestling Team after the 2003-4 season. He wrestled for NCS from 1983-1986 with a team record of 58-19 and one national championship.

When the plane landed in Raleigh-Durham we left the plane I asked the coach if I could speak to the team and have prayer with them. Coach Carter then told me he was a PK (preacher's kid) and he would love it if I would talk to his team and team managers.

As I was waiting for all of them to come to the baggage area one young wrestler was sitting there by himself. I introduced myself to him and and asked if he knew for sure he would go to Heaven at death. He answered yes! He told me his dad was a Baptist preacher. His name was Darrius Little. I found out later on that his record was 27-9 and he was an All-American. A fine young man and very polite.

Their team record so far this year is 4-5. They did defeat American University who are ranked number 9 in the nation. I wrestled in high-school and I believe the most strenuous sport to be that of wrestling. I'm not talking about the fake wrestling you see on TV.

After a while the team gathered to pick up their luggage and the coach called every one together and said, "This is Dr. Bob Gray Sr. and he wants to talk to us and pray for us!" After explaining the Gospel story we joined in a circle I prayed for them and then gave them opportunity to ask Christ to save their souls. I prayed and they prayed! WOW! The coach thanked me and was very pleased! GOTTA LOVE SOUL WINNING!

FLYING TO NORTH CAROLINA

I will be driving to Tyler and catching a flight to DFW and then on to Raleigh-Durham airport in NC.  I will be preaching for my friend Pastor Charles Hamilton who pastors the GRACE INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CHURCH of Cedar Grove, NC. Not only will I be preaching on Sunday but I will be preaching Monday night at 7 pm. If you are in the area please come and be with us. We will have a great time!

It is hard to believe that January has come and gone so quickly. I was going over my soul winner's New Testament this morning praising God for He has given me 31 souls so far this month with 12 of those following the LORD in baptism. I am so glad that my path crossed with Dr. John R. Rice and Dr. Jack Hyles in 1972 at the GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH of South Bend, IN. The emphasis on personal soul winning was dramatic on my life. GOTTA LOVE THE OLD TIME RELIGION!

I hope you will make plans to be with us in Milwaukee for the INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCE. Dr. Shelton Smith, Dr. Russell Anderson, Dr. Paul Duckett Sr., Pastor Brent Lenetine, and Pastor Todd Poynter will be with us. Dr. Dean Noonan has done a marvelous job of building a soul winning church in the Milwaukee area as well as a beautiful new facility.

The first 50 pastors who call and pre-register for the conference will receive motel accommodations for Monday and Tuesday. Call 414-301-9319 NOW! There is no cost for the conference!

Classes will begin at 9 am on Tuesday with Pastors and staff, laymen with Dr. Anderson, ladies with Mrs. Noonan, and youth with Youth Pastor  Matt Kielas. There will be a luncheon for laymen, with everyone invited, hosted by Dr. Russell Anderson. He has the goods! He can help your laymen become effective business men and major contributors to your work.

Behind every great revival in America was a great man of God. Behind every great man of God in that revival was a great layman of God. We must help our laymen of God as well as our men of God to prepare for a move of God. Dr. Anderson must not die without leaving the lessons he learned as a "coal miner" who made millions and gave millions for the cause of Christ. No one in history has given more than Dr. Russell Anderson. 39 million dollars given by him to independent Baptist works. Listen to this he gave 8.5 million in one day! YOU MUST BRING YOUR LAYMEN! SEE YOU IN APRIL!

APRIL 8-10, 2012, INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCE

I hope you will mark your calendar for April 8-10 for the INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCE, which will be coming to the Milwaukee, WI, area.

One of those speakers will be Pastor Todd Poynter who founded in 1995 the GREENWOOD BIBLE BAPTIST CHURCH of Indianapolis, IN. This is a miraculous church which has grown from an attendance of 2, of Pastor and Mrs. Poynter, to over 450 average attendance. This pastor has led his dear people through 5 building projects with a recent 27,000 square foot building.

This is a traditional Gospel preaching independent Baptist church with 22 Sunday school classes and dozens of soul winning ministries. Thousands have been saved and baptized. This is an aggressive soul winning and family values ministry. You must hear this pastor who is being used of God to reach his community with the Gospel. He is an uncompromising young man of God!

Please make plans to be with us on April 8-10, 2012. Also, the first 50 pastors who pre-register will have their motel accommodations paid for. Classes will be conducted on Tuesday morning for the pastors & staff, laymen, ladies, and youth. This will be very informative and a nuts and bolts approach to life in the independent Baptist world.

Dr. Russell Anderson and myself will be co-hosting INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCES such as this around the country. I want you to be apart of the very first one!

PLEASE CALL 414-301-9319 TO PRE-REGISTER!

Prepare to be apart of this great week of singing, preaching, and teaching! Looking forward to seeing you in April. GOTTA LOVE THE OLD TIME RELIGION!

ANOTHER "COOKIE CUTTER" SUNDAY

Dr. Ron Talley
Dr. Ron Talley and I had the honor of attending Bible college under the tutorship of Dr. Jack Hyles.  Today I was privileged to teach and preach for my friend at Chesterfield, VA. He was greeted with 10 precious members 26 years ago and now runs several hundred in attendance. This weekend 32 folks were saved, 7 professions, and 4 followed the LORD in baptism. Another "cookie cutter" Sunday. GOTTA LOVE IT!

We were reliving those days in the 70's at college. We were both apart of the first four year class of Dr. Hyles' college. The things our pastor taught us and lived in front of us has benefited both of our ministries. We remembered and recalled how our pastor remained teachable while growing himself.

Both of our ministries are patterned after the things we learned from our pastor. I wish this unteachable generation could understand that the ability to live under the shadow of a great man is the mark of a great man! Only pride and big egos criticize people who learn from people. No one is a self made man!

How often have I heard Dr. Hyles say if Dr. John R. Rice were alive today he would recognize the perversion of versions and be King James only and only King James! Why, because Dr. Rice remained teachable also! GOTTA LOVE THE OLD TIME RELIGION!

Look out for the COOKIE MONSTERS! They are everywhere!

PREACHING IN VIRGINIA

Wow! What a short night last night was. It was about 11 before I went to bed and I was up at 2:30 this morning to finish packing. Then I had my quiet time and my prayer time.

Mrs. G had her shoulder rotator cuff surgery on Monday and is doing as well as can be expected. I did my best to be quiet this morning, but to no avail. When I slipped into the kitchen she woke up and asked if I would make her a cup of coffee. I told her to go back to sleep, but she was already awake. She told me I was like a "bull in a china closet" when I get out of bed. The nerve! Ha!

One of our dear men of LBT Donnie Vansike drove me to the Shreveport airport at 4 am. I then flew to DFW and onto Richmond, VA. I will be teaching and preaching for my good friend Dr. Ron Talley.  He is in his 26th year as pastor in Chesterfield, VA. He was greeted with 10 people 26 years ago and is running several hundred today. I love to hear this man of God preach. GOTTA LOVE OLD TIME PREACHING!

What we need are more "Cookie Cutter" ministries led by "Cookie Cutter" men of God!

I Corinthians 11:1, "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ." I Corinthians 4:16, "Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me." Philippians 3:17, "Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample." Hebrews 13:7, "Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation." Hebrews 13:17, "Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you."

I am so glad that I lived during the Jack Hyles, Lee Roberson, John R. Rice, Lester Roloff, Tom Malone, G. B. Vick, Missionary Bob Hughes, and  Curtis Hutson era and the pattern these men of God gave me both publicly and privately. I unashamedly followed them as they followed Christ.

How sad that this generation is so unteachable! There would be no Missionary Kevin Wynn running 8,000 in Mexico City, Mexico. There would be no Rick Martin running 6,000 in the Philippines. Oh, I can hear you now with your caustic remarks about numbers, but may I remind you of a couple of verses.

I Corinthians 3:6, "...but God gave the increase." I Corinthians 3:7, "...but God that giveth the increase." I Corinthians 3:9, "For we are labourers together with God..."  When you attack large Scriptural ministries you my friend are attacking God for it is God who gives the "increase." Increase has no numerical value attached to it. Any increase is an increase so thank God for all sizes of increases! If you criticize the large increases then you must be fair and criticize the small increases. However, both criticisms are wrong!

I just saw an advertisement for Pastor G and his dance ministry on the TV. This is the same Pastor G that Pastor Jack Schaap bragged on at Pastors' School. If it is a dance club and a rock concert used to gather the crowds that is not what God had in mind, but if it is a soul winning, separated, spirit filled Baptist church then be careful  you may be criticizing God. If they belittle preserved inspiration of the King James Bible, the virgin birth, the resurrection, the cleansing agent of Christ's shed and applied blood then run, otherwise always remember it is God that gives the increase.

"Mr. Hyles, there are no such thing as little churches!" How often have we heard Dr. Hyles rehearse this day in his college days for us? This is the rebuke of a Bible professor to Dr. Jack Hyles as a young preacher. Whether large increases or small increases there is still shouting in Heaven over one sinner that repents. GOTTA LOVE THE WORK OF GOD!

"INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCE" COMING TO MILWAUKEE

On April 8-10 the INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CONFERENCE will coming to the Milwaukee, WI, area. The host church is the FAITH BAPTIST CHURCH of Oak Creek, WI., pastored by Dr. Dean Noonan.

It is time to return to those Biblical principles used by the giants of the faith of the previous generation to begin building great soul winning churches once again. WHAT HAS BEEN DONE CAN BE DONE!

In addition to spirit filled music and spirit filled preaching, classes will be conducted covering vital areas of the ministry. Classes for laymen will be conducted by Dr. Russell Anderson, classes for pastors and staff conducted by myself with free materials, ladies classes conducted by Mrs. Noonan, and youth classes conducted by Youth Pastor Matt Kielas.

Dr. Paul Duckett Sr. sang for and led singing for J. Frank Norris on many occasions. He is a godly man who is spirit filled and his music is used by the Holy Spirit to touch souls. You will never forget the song services after participating in this meeting.

In addition there will be a special Businessman's Luncheon with Dr. Russell Anderson Tuesday at noon. Dr. Anderson has a burning desire to help laymen to help their pastors. He ran 7 successful businesses which allowed him to give 39 million dollars to the work of the LORD. He gave 8.5 million in one day! No man in history has given as much to the work of God let alone Independent Baptist Churches. The things God taught Russell Anderson must not die with Russell Anderson! WHAT HAS BEEN DONE CAN BE DONE!

The first 50 pastors with their wives who call and pre-register will have provided for them motel accommodations for both Monday and Tuesday.  Please attend and bring your laymen to this unique conference. Also, start praying for the Holy Spirit to come upon this meeting and transform us into "on fire" servants. WHAT HAS BEEN DONE CAN BE DONE!

God is not a respecter of persons. God did not love Dallas Billington, Billy Sunday, Jack Hyles, G. B. Vick, Lee Roberson, Tom Malone, John R. Rice, or Curtis Hutson more than he does you and me. I absolutely refuse to believe God cannot do it again. He is still looking for someone who will surrender all and give their all! We do not need to be stirred or changed for we need to be "TRANSFORMED."  WHAT HAS BEEN DONE CAN BE DONE!

A TEACHABLE MOMENT!

John 14:6, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

According to I Timothy 2:5 there is only one mediator between God and man"...the man Christ Jesus." Acts 4:12, "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Salvation is through the LORD Jesus Christ and Him alone!

Now begins the great journey of life in the flesh for the Christian.

II Peter 3:18, "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ..." God's plan is for His children to grow after their second birth. God does not say how much the growth should be or how fast the growth should be, He just simply says "grow."

Matthew 5:48, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." God is admonishing his children to be maturing with the Heavenly Father as their comparison and not each other.

There is only one way to be saved and only one way to live after salvation. How far you have traveled down that one way path or how fast you have traveled after salvation is not the issue. The issue is the traveling on the one way in the right direction on the right path.

One may be at the same point on his journey as I, but if he is going the wrong way on the one way, then I must not go with him or aid him. He may be further down the one way than I, but if he is going the wrong way on a one way I again must not go with him or aid him.

I would suggest you read chapter 23 of my book WHEN PRINCIPLE WAS KING of The Principle of Inclusivism. Dr. Jack Hyles was always looking for men who were further away from where he was, but who were moving in the right direction and it was not the distance but the direction that made the difference in his associations.

Recently I published a picture on my BLOG of one of our TEXAS BAPTIST COLLEGE young men helping an area local Baptist Church through the TBC Internship program. There was a drum set in the back of the picture and wow did I ever hear about it!

My friend, this dear local pastor asked for our help and he is traveling the same direction. He may not be as far down the road as he or I would like, but he is headed in the right direction. There is a real world out there and young men need to be insulated not isolated and accept the fact there are those on the one way going the wrong way and have discernment about them.

I wonder if the drum set should have drowned out the 3 who made professions of faith whose pictures were in the forefront? We need to be careful in our assessment.  If it had been a "wet bar" in the background I would be concerned. A drum set is not sinful in and of itself. It is a tool that can be used in a sinful manner. I do not prefer them in a church service, but I do prefer the heart of a pastor who is teachable and is "growing in grace."

If it were an issue of "doctrine" that would be different, but this is an issue of "direction." I will not run with nor aid the non-inspired King James Bible crowd, for they my friend are going the wrong way on a one way street. They say they "use only the King James Bible," but so do the Mormons.

I will aid those who own a drum set while headed in the right way on a one way who are doctrinally sound. GOTTA LOVE HELPING THOSE HEADED IN THE RIGHT WAY ON THE ONE WAY!

BACK HOME FROM THE CRUISE

OASIS OF THE SEAS
MRS. GRAY
DINNER
VICTOR
Mrs. G and I had a wonderful time on the OASIS OF THE SEAS cruise with Dr. Russell Anderson along with  Bill and Judy Stinedurf. Judy is Dr. Anderson's sister. We arrived back into Fort Lauderdale on Saturday morning and flew back to DFW then on to Longview, TX. We were both beat by the time we arrived home. We were able to lead many folks to Christ on the cruise. One the special ones was Victor from Peru. He had our table set for us with utensils and drinks (non-alcoholic lemonade) when we arrived for dinner. I asked him if he had two birthdays and from there we gave him the Gospel. He bowed his head took me by the hand and trusted Christ for salvation. GOTTA LOVE SOUL WINNING!

My son Dr. Bob II asked me to have a book signing at LBT for my new book WHEN PRINCIPLE WAS KING on Sunday night. The response was tremendous and of course I was able to renew old friendships with dear church members. One little lady approached me and told me how she rode the buses, saved, and baptized at LBT as a little girl and now she is married with a son of her own. She thanked me for running the buses. GOTTA LOVE THE BUS MINISTRY!

I preached Sunday morning for my good friend Pastor Frank Sturrock who started THE BAPTIST HOUSE OF FAITH in a neighboring city. God gave us 6 precious souls, 3 professions, and one baptism.

One of the programs Dr. Bob II has started with TEXAS BAPTIST COLLEGE pastoral students is an internship where they go and help pastors in area churches. James Thomas gave the announcements for Pastor Sturrock on Sunday morning. These young men go soul winning in the area and conduct the services. James brought a visiting couple to the services on Sunday. This is an exciting program for our pastoral students! GOTTA LOVE YOUNG PREACHERS!

MRS. G AND I ARE ON OUR WAY TO A CRUISE

Dr. Russell Anderson was kind enough to pay for a Caribbean cruise on the Oasis of the Seas cruise liner for Mrs. G and I. We will be making three stops. One in Mexico, Haiti, and Jamaica. Mrs. G is as excited as I have ever seen. We will be arriving back in Fort Lauderdale on January 14 and then fly home.  She had a tragedy though because she found a hole in the knee of her bathing suit and it just couldn't be mended and so she left it home. Ha!

We will be traveling with Dr. Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Stinedurf who are sister and brother-in-law to Dr. Anderson.

Last night at the Holiday Inn Express I met with Dr. Anderson to autograph with him books of WHEN PRINCIPLE WAS KING. I put some tables together and opened the cases of books to spread them out on the table for signatures to prepare for the process of autographing them.

As we were signing them a young man named Ozzie walked up and began to ask questions about the book. After a while I presented the Gospel to him and he bowed his head and took me by the hand to pray to receive Christ as his Saviour.  He was excited, Dr. Anderson was excited, I was excited, and all of Heaven was excited! That is what this new book is emphasizing the basic principles that still work in this 21st Century.

Shhhhhhhh!!!! Now, don't tell Mrs. Ayres, but I gave him an autographed book! I know I can trust you! GOTTA LOVE OLD TIME RELIGION!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Welcome to 2012! I took some time this morning to not only read my Bible, pray, and thank God for his goodness, but I also took my annual inventory of my soul winning.

2011 allowed me opportunity to give the Gospel out multiple times and I am grateful for every opportunity.  The LORD gave me the pleasure of winning 404 precious people to Christ, 200 of those walked the aisles in church, and 107 of those followed the LORD in baptism. Since coming to Texas I have preached 26,135 sermons, led 15,810 folks to Christ, and had 4,616 of those follow the LORD in baptism.

I have been home for two weeks and enjoying every minute of it. This morning I was able to attend my home church LONGVIEW BAPTIST TEMPLE of Longview, TX. I rarely am here, except for Wednesday nights, since retiring March 1, 2009.  The music was excellent, as usual, and the spirit great. Folks were saved and baptized. My son Dr. Bob II preached a great message encouraging folks about opportunities 2012 would afford.

As I was walking across a couple of our parking lots to go to Sunday school I noticed Mr. and Mrs. Terry Thompson cleaning out their bus after unloading their riders for Sunday school. These dear folks have been in the Bus Ministry for a total of 33 years. Also, I noticed Bus Director Josh Doyle walking by and I asked if I could have my picture taken with them. I love the Bus Ministry!

By the way Josh is married to our oldest grandchild DeAnna. We are hoping for a  great grandchild from this young man of God. Really it doesn't matter because Mrs. G and I are already "GREAT" grandparents! Ha! Get it! GOTTA LOVE FAMILY!
