Sunday Morning
Pastor Matt Miller
2 of 12 adults trusting Christ
I had the honor of preaching for Pastor Matt Miller who pastors the GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH of Colorado Springs, CO.

He hosted his first "OUR SOUL PURPOSE CONFERENCE" which he announced will be conducted annually. We had 15 pastors attend  between the day and night services on Monday.

They hosted a luncheon and the ladies certainly did a wonderful job of feeding some hungry Baptists.

This is the church started by my dear friend Dr. Dean Miller Sr.   His son Matt became the pastor when Dr. Miller Sr. retired.  Dr. Miller Sr. is like myself traveling and doing our best to keep soul winning fundamentalism alive and well.  He is one of those special men of God with the spiritual DNA of Dr. Hyles, Dr. Roberson, Dr. Malone, Dr. Curtis Hutson, Dr. John R. Rice, and other great men of God.

Pastor Matt Miller led his church to move into an 80,000 square facility that you will have to see to believe.  This facility would cost 10 to 12 million dollars to build. With this new facility they have added 50,000 square feet for their church. WOW!  I am telling you it is an absolute miracle story as to how God gave them this facility on a 4 lane major road in Colorado Springs.

An 800 seat auditorium is being finished on the main level. In the mean time they are meeting in the bottom level of the facility.  They have a first class cafeteria with all of the hardware.  They have two elevators.   That's right you read it right, a fundamental independent Baptist church with two elevators.  I rode in one of them up and down just for the experience. Ha!

You need a guide to take you around so you will not get lost on your journey.   40,000 cars drive by this new facility a day.  They have enough space to run 2,000 in attendance.

They average 90 soul winners each week and the pastor is sure that the number will be even larger from now on because of this conference. They have a lot of new young couples attending.  I met several who have only been saved a few weeks.  Several new adults came on their own to the services on Sunday. God gave us in total 12 adults who trusted Christ.  AMEN!

I taught my lesson "7 DOORS TO ANSWERED PRAYER" in the auditorium Sunday school class.  I preached Sunday morning my sermon "YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN!"   Sunday night I preached "LET'S GO SOUL WARNING."  On Tuesday morning at the morning session I taught on "COMPASSION."  Then, on Tuesday night I preached my sermon "HOW TO KEEP ON GOING." The altars were full after every service with many dedicating to going soul winning

All of the services were electrifying.  You could see and sense the Holy Spirit working on the hearts of God's people.  It reminded me of the early days of the independent Baptist movement.   By the way those days are not over!  It is still happening all over this nation.  It just doesn't make the evening news.

Steve and Trish Rife helped me with my book table.  I want to thank them for their help.  By the way we sold all of our books and the pastor bought a case of "WHEN PRINCIPLE WAS KING" for his new book store.

This church will not have to worry about storage space.  That was always a concern for me in my 33 years of pastoring.

If you are ever in Colorado Springs, CO., please make plans to visit this church. You will not be sorry.

Matthew 28:19-20, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

Mark 16:15, "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

The Holy Spirit will guide God's children in soul winning in an unseen manner to know whom to speak to about the Gospel if we obey and speak to every creature.  Most of the time it is simply them crossing our path with an opportunity to witness.

The truth is the Holy Spirit does lead us, but not in the way some people believe. I go as far as the individual will let me go. No one made me trust Christ for I wanted to trust Christ at age 11.   No conversion!  We are looking for people who want to be saved.  That desire does not come because of the flesh it comes because of the Holy Ghost of God.

We are in the Scriptures commanded to go soul winning, to witness to all nations.  We are told in the Scriptures to witness to every creature.

When I go soul winning I always stop the first person I see.  I go from person to person.  Doors do not get saved.  You can knock on 15 doors without any one being home and fail to present the Gospel.  You can spend 15 hours out knocking on doors and not talk to one person.

John 6:63, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

John 12:32, "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me."

When I go soul winning I am lifting up Jesus Christ as the only Saviour by lifting up the incorruptible Word of God. (I Peter 1:23)

God promises to draw all men, but that does not mean he will make them trust Christ.  God is saying he will "draw." I go, I present the Gospel via the Scriptures and God the Holy Spirit "draws."

Acts 8:30-31, "And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readiest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him."

Notice the Scripture especially the words, "except some man should guide me."

The Ethiopian was asked by Philip if he understood what he was reading.  He replied that he could not understand unless some man should guide him.  The Word of God is not enough.

This man was reading the best part of the Bible that was available then to deal with salvation. He was reading the clearest book of that Bible concerning salvation. He was in the clearest chapter of that book concerning salvation.  He was reading the clearest part of that chapter concerning salvation, and YET he needed someone to guide him.

Psalm 126:6, "He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."

The falling away, coldness, and deadness starts when soul winning stops.  This verse says "he"..."goeth forth"..."weepeth"..."bearing precious seed"..."shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."

When you remove the "he" will remove "goeth forth"...then you will remove "weepeth."  When we stop confrontational evangelism or soul winning, it will not take long for the burden to pass.

I will be driving to Tyler, TX., to catch a flight to DFW and then on to Colorado Springs, CO.   I will be teaching and preaching for Pastor Matt Miller.   He will be hosting a Monday night meeting at CORNERSTONE BAPTIST CHURCH.   If you are in the area I hope you will attend Monday night.

This book will provide some insights into one of the greatest men of God this nation has known.  If you do not have the book "WHEN PRINCIPLE WAS KING" I would suggest purchasing it and these two books together will help you to understand an era in one of the most powerful movements this nation has ever known.  There is no doubt the effect of the independent Baptist movement went from the most rural of areas to the White House itself.  One of the men who provided the leadership was Dr. Jack Hyles.  His Biblical principles are still alive and are easily available to this generation.

I was a part of the first four year class of Hyles-Anderson College, I was on staff at the college, my wife was Dr. Evan's secretary, and I traveled with Dr. Hyles regularly over a 22 year period.  I believe these books will remind you of the greatness of the hour and the principles that God blessed.  There is no perfection here and yet there is knowledge that God can use mortals to reach the unsaved.

The Biblical principles taught by Dr. Hyles not only worked for him, but those who adopted and adapted to those same  Scriptural principles.  You can go to foreign lands and observe great works as well as around this nation who will take you back to a PASTORS' SCHOOL or HAC itself where these Biblical principles were first taught and embraced.

You can go to SOLVECHURCHPROBLEMS.COM and order "WHEN PRINCIPLE WAS KING."  If you will, as many have already, email me ( you can take advantage of the pre-order sale of "JACK HYLES-COMMUNICATOR."  For churches and book stores there will be a half price sale for a case of 16 plus S/H.

This weekend I will be traveling to Corsicana, TX, to preach for my long time friend Pastor Chad Owens.   They recently bought a Methodist church building in down town Corsicana.  This will be my first time preaching at that facility.   I am looking forward to being with him and his dear people at UNITY BAPTIST CHURCH.

Thank all of you for your prayers for Mrs. G.  She had a disc removed from her neck along with a metal plate put on the back of her neck.  She is resting and recovering.  I have been home for two weeks taking care of her and dealing with a bad case of walking pneumonia.  It was like the GRAY NURSING HOME around here for two weeks.  I am a little weak, but looking forward to teaching and preaching this week en.

The hardest thing about this new book is contemplating what to leave out.  It will be a book of insight into the preaching, teaching, and principles of communication that will be of tremendous help to any child of God especially a leader in a local church.  Many of you have emailed me and asked about this book.  If you will email me and ask to have one reserved for you I will gladly do so.  I am hoping that by the end of March this book will be finalized.  This will be a great companion book to "WHEN PRINCIPLE WAS KING-The Life Principles of Dr. Jack Hyles"

If you, your church, or book store would like to be put on a list for our pre-sale offer by the case, 16 in a case, we will offer this book at half price, plus S/H.  I would not wait till the last minute for this offer.

I answer dozens and dozens of emails each week.  Many emails I simply do not answer because they are obviously hateful in nature.   I have always had an open door policy when pastoring and would entertain anyone who acted like an adult and a Christian.   I do not mind answering questions.  If your emails are not answered it is because I sense a wrong spirit.  However, I do take them to the Word of God to check the content of the email with God's Word.

I use to have a church member who would make an appointment once a year and present me with a list of mistakes he felt I had committed.  He never raised his voice nor did he attack me.  One year my secretary said to me, "You don't have to see him.  Every one in this church knows he is Mr. Negative and Mr. Critical toward you."  My answer was, "Yes, I need to see him because he will tell me things that no one else will."

I would patiently listen and make a list of all of his assertions.  99 % of them were simply untrue summations.  However, there would inevitably be one thing he would say that the Holy Spirit would use to prick my heart.  I would calmly circle that one and move on to the next.  (I didn't want him to know.  I still have pride you know. Ha!)  When he left I would get down on my knees and ask God to forgive me and if God would let me live I told God I would NEVER do that one thing again.

Now, that man was not a soul winner nor did I sense he was a spiritual person and obviously he had some conflicts with previous pastors.  By the way he and his family are today out of church completely.  What a shame! A local church is a body and every body has to have a "heel" or an uncomely part to function.  As long as someone acts like an adult and treats me thus I have NO PROBLEM answering any question.

Recently there has been a deluge of questions about what is called "The Sinner's Prayer."  I am amazed at the number of BLOGS by females who are false teachers, worldly, Buddhist lovers, bikini wearing, and haters of independent Baptists who have garnered the attention of some of our dear people.

The emerging church leadership question if there is a Hell, the rapture, tribulation period, godly music, separation from the world, Sunday school, old fashioned preaching, they are conducting wedding ceremonies for their homosexual children,  critical of the King James Bible, and all we hold dear as independent Baptists.   One female had someone take a picture of her "poll dancing."  They claim to care for sexual victims while providing provocative pictures of themselves.  Wicked as Hell!

Romans 3:10, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:"

Romans 3:11, "There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God."

Romans 3:12, "They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not, one."

Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"

Acts 16:30, "And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Acts 16:31, "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."

Romans 10:10, "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

Romans 10:13, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

Acts 8:31, "And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me..."

Luke 11:2, "And he said unto them, When ye pray, say..."

Isaiah 64:6, "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities like the wind, have taken us away."

Hebrews  4:16, "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."

Revelation 5:8, "And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, WHICH ARE THE PRAYERS OF THE SAINTS."

  • The Scriptures state all are sinners
  • You are either a saved sinner or and unsaved sinner
  • Unsaved sinners can pray for salvation by calling on the Lord Jesus Christ
  • The prayer does not save it is merely "communication"
  • It is belief that causes the reception of Jesus Christ's shed blood to become applied blood to the soul
  • Unsaved sinners are commanded to pray and thus can only pray as a sinner
  • The sinner's prayer for the unsaved is asking for the shed blood to become applied blood
  • The sinner's prayer for the saved is to be done "boldly"
  • The sinner's prayers of the saved and unsaved are kept in a bottle in Heaven
  • Their issue is not with the "sinner's prayer" but "soul winning"
  • When you begin to question other's salvation you will eventually begin to doubt your salvation

I went soul winning with Dr. Jack Hyles, Evangelist Jim Lyons, Evangelist Carl Hatch, Dr. C. W. Fisk, Dr. Curtis Hutson, and many other well known independent Baptist leaders.  I have always considered these dear men to be the most thorough personal soul winners I have ever known.

They all emphasized the acknowledgement of the presence of the Holy Spirit as the REAL SILENT PARTNER.  No conviction - no conversion!

Another vital thing I learned was to present the Gospel (which is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ according to I Corinthians chapter 15) with simplicity.  Pause and ask questions to make sure he or she understands.

When it came time to close the soul winning presentation they would ask the unsaved person to bow their heads for prayer.  During that prayer the soul winner would beg for the Holy Spirit to convict and convince the unsaved person to trust Christ for payment of all their sins.

Then the soul winner would ask the unsaved person to place their hand on the Bible.  At that point the soul winner would encourage the unsaved person to pray to Christ for salvation.  This is important that you understand that "silence" at this point does not mean there is no understanding or reception.

If there is silence I ask them if they would like for me to word a prayer.  If they say "Yes" then I would word the prayer and give them opportunity to pray in their own words.

This whole issue and attack of "The Sinner's Prayer" is simply an attack on soul winning by the unsaved.
