THE CATALYST OF FAITH

LIVING BY FAITH

Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

If you do not carefully follow this article you will not grasp the truth. This is a very unpretentious subject, but a wonderful truth of living by faith. This will be one of those thoughts that will be line upon line and precept upon precept.

EVERYTHING GOD HAS IS OBTAINED BY FAITH

Man does not receive things from God because he or she is separated from the world. Separation from the world benefits man. One will live longer and live better because of practicing the doctrine of separation. This doctrine will allow one to walk with God, but again let me reiterate man does not get things from God because he or she lives a separated life. Man receives things from God via faith.

Man does not get things from God necessarily by praying. The Bible does not say, “Praying shall save the sick” it does say, “The prayer of faith shall save the sick.” It is faith that gets a person things from God. Faith is the key that unlocks all of God’s cupboards.

Man does not get things from God because he or she is dedicated though God’s children should be dedicated. Being dedicated will benefit you and yours.

Man does not receive things from God because he or she is faithful though God’s children should be faithful. The truth is you will benefit from faithfulness by living longer and living better. Man receives things from God by faith.

DIFFERENT DEGREES OF FAITH

Matthew 6:30 mentions “little faith” while Matthew 8:10 gives us the term “great faith.” Luke 17:5 we have the term “increased faith” and Matthew 17:20 mentions faith like a grain of mustard seed. Acts 6:5 mentions “full faith” and all of this is underlined by Romans 12:6 where it speaks about our “proportion of faith.”

Please follow carefully. Some have “little faith” and if faith is the key to getting things from God then those with little faith will get little from God. Some possess “great faith” and if faith is the key to getting things from God then they will get greater things from God. Some have “full faith” and if faith is the key to getting things from God then they can get almost everything they ask for from God.

Matthew 9:29 says, “According to your faith so be it to you.” There is not a single person reading this chapter who does not want to receive things from God. Some one has an ill child and you want that child returned to health by God. Some one has a financial problem and you want God to supply financially. Some one has a wife or husband who has left and filed for divorce and you want God to intervene and bring your spouse back home.

The truth is every one reading this article wants to get things from God and the way to get things from God is by faith. Please take note of this statement? There are some Christians who are better Christians than others who get things from God.  Those who are not as good of a Christian who get things from God is the result of faith not goodness. Some are not as faithful, dedicated, or separated as others who get more things from God. Why, because man does not get things from God because he or she is a good Christian.

Wait before you crucify me please do not misunderstand for you will live longer and better by being a good Christian, but not get as much from God as those who have faith in God. If you desire to get things from God and it is by faith, then I would pay attention to this article.

·      Everything that God has is obtained by faith
·      There are different degrees of faith
·      Each of God’s children have different degrees of faith
·      The degree of faith equals the degree of answer

Little faith equals little things from God, great faith equals getting greater things from God, and full faith equals getting almost everything you ask from God.

GOD PROVIDES THE FAITH

Habakkuk 2:4 says, “The just shall live by his faith” and Romans 1:17 says the same thing, but there is one more word added in Habakkuk 2:4 and that is the word “his.” The Just shall live by “his” faith. The very faith we have has been given to us by God himself and it belongs to God for it is “his faith.”

Ephesians 2:8-9 God says he provides the very faith that man can place back into God. Wait a minute does that mean that God chooses whom he will save and does God choose whom he gives the faith too? NO! The Bible is filled with the “whosoever will may come.”

How then can we reconcile all of this? According to the Bible no one can go to Heaven unless he wills to do so. Man chooses, decides, and wills to either trust the Saviour or reject the Saviour. So, how do we reconcile “our will” with “his faith”?

GOD GIVES TO ALL MEN THE SAME MEASURE OF FAITH

Romans 12:3, “…as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.” God gives the same measure of faith to each of us at the beginning and we all start out the same.

When I was a boy and we went on a trip somewhere each of us would receive a dollar and we could spend it on whatever we wanted to. Hold it, I could do what I wanted to do with the dollar. God has done the same thing to each of us with faith. The Bible says, “…the measure of faith” not “a” but “the.” It is the same at the beginning for all of us.

MAN CAN SPEND THAT FAITH WHERE EVER HE PLEASES

If God’s child is to get the greatest return on that faith he must place it right back into God himself. Man may squander that faith if he so chooses. He can place it in his company where he works, or the government, or a retirement program, or a wife, or a husband, or a religion, or a priest, or a preacher, or Social Security. Man alone decides where to spend this faith that God has given equally to all of mankind. God does not give man faith that he MUST place back into him. Man has an option of where to place that faith. God lets man decide for himself.

My mother and my daddy, when I was young, were on opposite sides as far as God was concerned. As a 5, 6, and 7-year-old boy I decided where to place my faith. God gives each of us the same measure of faith and we become stewards of that faith. It is up to each of us how we invest that faith.

If a man goes to Hell it is because he or she has placed that faith in the wrong person or the wrong thing. If a person has Hell on earth it is because he or she has placed their faith in the wrong person or the wrong thing. No man can generate saving faith or living faith. Faith is given to every man the same measure then it is up to each individual where he or she invests that faith as to whether or not it grows with returned dividends or not.

I often find myself thanking God for my godly mother for she encouraged me to place my faith in God, his word, his work, his program of finances, his place for marriage, and his plan for child rearing. God gave me the same measure of faith and then my mother became a cheerleader for Jesus and encouraged me where to invest my faith. Man is constantly using faith in every area of his life.

WHEN YOU PLACE THAT FAITH IN GOD HE GIVES YOU MORE FAITH

This is a basic principle; you cannot out give God for he will be a debtor to no man. Romans 1:17, “For therein is the righteousness of Go revealed from faith to faith…” God gives you faith and you place that faith back into his Son Jesus Christ to take you to Heaven when you die. He gives you faith to be baptized and you place that faith back into God. He gives you faith to give tithes and offerings and you place that faith back into God. He gives you faith to go soul winning and you place that faith back into God by going soul winning. God gives you faith to walk with him and you place that faith back into God by walking daily with him. On and on it goes.

SUMMARY

·      Everything that God has is obtained by faith
·      There are different degrees of faith
·      Each of us have a different level of faith
·      The level of the faith determines the level of what we receive from God
·      God provides the faith
·      God provides the same measure of faith to all
·      We may invest that faith where we please
·      When we place that faith in God he gives us more faith

·      Thus, if we receive less it is because we invested less

This book is designed to expose the attacks of Satan on Independent Baptist Churches.  Every generation has to fight its own battles for the cause of Christ.  There is nothing new in the tactics of Satan.  We are not ignorant of his devices, but Satan knows how to stroke egos, blind us, and disguise himself so his tares look like wheat.  It is the same play just different actors.

Here are samples of the chapters in this 33 chapter book of "TRIAL BY FIRE."

"Satan's Attack on the Autonomy of the Local Church"
"The Tolerance of Intolerance"
"Advice to Churches Going Through the Fire"
"Satan's Goal is to Destroy"
"Satan's Attack on Pastoral Authority"
"Writing Wrongs"
"Accountability"
"Satan's Attack Against our Stand on Homosexuality"
"It's Time to Grow Up"
"Satan's Attack Using Calvinism"
"Young Rebels"
"Satan's Use of Repentance"
"Collateral Damage"
"Why Do Adult Children Rebel?"

This is a book also of 384 pages.  This is a hardback book with a beautiful dust jacket.  I know of no one who could communicate to others with the clarity of a Dr. Jack Hyles.  His communication skills enabled him to go from the common man to the highest of intellects without seeming effort.

There are 33 chapters in this book.  Every chapter will punch a reset button of memory and supply the why behind the what of his communication.   He was criticized by those who did not know him let alone know the logic behind his communication skills.  Here are a few of the 33 chapters in this book.

"Show Us Your Muscles"
"A Great Story Teller"
"One Great Truth Per Sermon"
"Communicating Through Repetition"
"The Line Outside His Door"
"Reese's Peanut Butter Cups"

Many pastors are buying a case to give as Christmas gifts to their staff and Sunday school teachers.  These will make a great Christmas gifts to your family also.  The local bookstore will be the ruin of many a good church.  Our people need literature in their homes that will reinforce what their church stands for.

I do not profit from these books.  The money proceeds from the sale of these books goes back into the printing and distribution of my books.  My desire is to keep John Rice, Lee Roberson, Tom Malone, Curtis Hutson, Jack Hyles, Carl Hatch, and other great men alive for our young people to better understand who we are as independent Baptists.

Email dayres5@juno.com or bgraysr@me.com or call 903-576-1307 or 903-237-9019 today and take advantage of this offer. You have a few more days in order receive the books before Christmas.

If you loved "WHEN PRINCIPLE WAS KING" you will definitely love these books.

CHOOSING THE BEST

THE SUBTLE LEADING AWAY FROM GOD

Luke 22:55, “And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.”

First, Peter was sleeping; second, Peter was impulsive; third, Peter was resisting; fourth, Peter followed afar off; fifth, Peter sits down with the crowd that crucified his Saviour. In Luke 22:56-57 Peter denies the Lord Jesus. Along time before Peter went to sleep he would not have denied he knew the Lord.

He chose one step that led to another step that led to another step and with each step taking him from the wills of God for his life. Sixth, in Luke 59-60, Peter denies his church and the enemy says, “thou art also of them.” Peter ends up denying his church, his faith, and his Lord. Step by step he goes away from the wills of God.

PETER HAD A CHOICE BETWEEN THE BEST AND SECOND BEST

There is decision to be made between the best and second best for all of God’s children. Peter chose second best and then the best was no longer an alternative. Then second best became the best in Peter’s life. Something else then became second best in his life. Now, Peter has become a second best chooser!

Just as others led the Apostle Paul to the wills of God, so was Peter lead away from the wills of God by others. Now, Peter’s choice is not the best but third best which is now his best. Twice second best is chosen which now becomes the best.

You quit your Sunday school class because you say, “My schedule doesn’t allow me to do my best.” No, that is not true! You always make time for the important things in your life. By quitting you have chosen that which is second best. The desire should always to be the best Sunday school teacher, the best bus captain, the best youth pastor, the best principal, or the best schoolteacher. Some do a good job but not the best job.

PETER CHOSE SECOND BEST

There is not excuse for a child of God to allow others to lead us away from the best. Peer pressure is a powerful force in life. No one is immune to the pull of the crowd. The best solution to it is to run with the right crowd and allow those who are living for God to challenge and encourage us to live our best for the one who gave His best to save our souls from an eternal Hell.

Peter chose second best, which became his best and caused him to be led away from the will of God for his life. The free will of man can be a blessing or a curse depending upon whom you are living for, yourself or God.

The best no longer was an alternative for Peter. Then second best became the best for Peter with him becoming a second best chooser. We create habits and appetites of living in the second best. This process continues until the worst becomes your best with weeping being the destination. Backsliding is a sudden and dangerous way to leave that is birthed through the first choice of second best.

OBSERVATIONS

DO NOT ENTERTAIN OR SEEK SECOND BEST – Stay with your mate, parents, job, church, school, or college.

IF SECOND BEST IS NOW YOUR BEST THEN DO NOT ENTERTAIN THIRD BEST – Once you have blown it stop the sliding right where you are. 75% of those who divorce do it again.

IF YOU ARE AT SECOND BEST GIVE YOUR LIFE TO SERVE THOSE DOING THE BEST – In Bible times when a man’s vineyard could not support his family he would give his vineyard to a successful husbandman and work for him.

IF YOU ARE AT SECOND BEST THEN GIVE YOUR DECISION MAKING TO THOSE DOING THE BEST – Obviously you have not chosen the best so give someone who is doing the best an opportunity to give advice to you.

IF YOU ARE LIVING SECOND BEST THEN GIVE VETO POWER TO SOMEONE WHO IS DOING THE BEST – You cannot stop yourself so it would be wise to let someone else stop you from making another second best decision.

THE CULTURAL INVASION

The Architect of the Culture Driven Church

Rick Warren
(The architect)

Rick Warren has succeeded in doing what many evangelicals before him have failed to do. He has drawn our Baptist churches into evangelicalism and then into the “emerging church” drama. With his numerically large church attendance and his Baptist background and his conservative-sounding doctrine, he has introduced evangelical practices into what were once traditional Baptist churches.

Rick Warren criticizes Baptist churches clinging to “tradition” that does not take into account modern culture; like the tradition of Bible preaching as defined in 2 Timothy 3:16, “doctrine, reproof, correction, instruction in righteousness.” Baptist Warrenites now use evangelical-style preaching that uplifts people without sweeping out the dirt from underneath their feet, preaching which professes righteousness without condemning sin. Preaching, which “reaches the people where they are,” without guiding them by the hand to where they ought to be.

Baptist evangelicals are forsaking the tradition of “Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught…” (Titus 1:9) Holding fast to the King James Bible, which has been handed down to us through the centuries from the Textus Receptus Greek text, and not forsaking God’s words for the new boys on the block, Wescott and Hort and Nestle and Aland and Black and Metzger, who have beguiled us with better manuscripts, which lay in dusty libraries, Vatican trash bins, and hidden caves, unused for centuries.

Baptist people are forsaking the tradition of godly, spiritual music that refreshes the soul without swaying the hips, as commanded by God in Ephesians 5:19, “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and SPIRITUAL songs (apparently there are UNSPIRITUAL songs)singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord:”

Baptist people are forsaking the tradition of modest dress, as God commanded in 1 Timothy 2:9. Isaiah 47:3 teaches that it is a shame to be unclothed, and lack of clothing is associated in the Bible with bad music (Exodus 32:18-19, 25), drunkenness (Lamentations 4:21, Habakkuk 2:15), and prostitution (Ezekiel 16:36, 23:18, Revelation 17:16).

Yet, the preaching of dress standards is labeled by Warren, and now some Independent Baptists, as legalistic, as found on page 236 of THE PURPOSE DRIVEN CHURCH. Pastor Warren does not even understand basic Bible terminology. Legalism is adding works to faith to produce salvation. (Galatians chapters 2-3, Romans 9:32, Hebrews 6:1)

On the copyright page of his book, THE PURPOSE DRIVEN CHURCH, before you even arrive at the Table of Contents, you will find something on the copyright page. On that page Pastor Warren lists seven different “bibles” he quotes within the pages of his book. These include the New International Version, then New Revised Standard Version, New Century Version, J. B. Phillips, and The Message.  Interesting, Rick does quote several times from the King James Bible, but since it is not copyrighted, he did not have to receive any man’s permission to use it.

Baptist pastors, Rick Warren does not respect what your fathers stood for! On page 236, he refers to “isolationists” who “reject new translations of Scripture, current musical styles, and any attempt to modify man-made traditions…” Scriptures have already been mentioned in this article to support “man-made” tradition, despite the fact that Warren goes on to say that isolationists have a “list of what is permissible and what isn’t regarding issues that the Bible is silent on.” (Emphasis mine) Of course, it is entirely possible that his Bibles ARE silent on these issues, but the King James Bible is very clear.

On page 55, Warren accuses us old-fashioned Baptists of being dishonest by saying, “In contrast, churches that try to perpetuate the culture of the 1950’s usually deny their intent or they try to prove with proof-texts that they are doing it the way it was done in New Testament times.”

Well, excuse us for using the Bible as our guide! If I stand accused of preferring the 1950’s to the 2000’s, I will not be offended. In the 1950’s women still wore dresses, sodomites were still afraid to come out of their closets, and men still led their homes. Yes, we still prefer that era to today, when modestly-dressed women must make their own clothes, certain states (and Disney) recognize the “rights” of sodomite “couples,” and more than half of all marriages end in divorce – when the couple bothers to marry at all.

Of course my question is how in the world did Rick Warren fool so many Baptists, and especially our young ones?

HIS SEEMING STRONG STAND ON EVANGELISM

Page 64 of his book reads, “Any church that is not obeying the Great Commission is failing its purpose, no matter what else it does.” Page 32 reads, “You measure the health or strength of a church by its sending capacity, not by its seating capacity.”

These standards could easily have been made from a Baptist pulpit. By these statements, however, he does not mean the confrontational, on the streets, one-on-one soul winning demonstrated in the Gospels and the book of Acts. Instead, he teaches the drawing of the “unchurched” into a “seeker service” designed specifically to win souls.

He accomplishes this not by door-to-door soul winning, but with advertising, surveys, seeking out what the people want, and community programs. He brings the “unchurched” in, then preaches the plan of salvation from the pulpit sandwiched in between a rock and roll show with Jesus’ name added.

Warren teaches not to pressure a man to receive Christ (page 304), despite the great Apostle Paul’s example, who “disputed with” and “persuaded” men in Acts 19:8. At the invitation, rather than bring sinners to the altar, he asks visitors to indicate on their visitor card whether, (A) they believed in Christ that day, (B) they had previously “committed their life to Christ,” (C) they were still thinking about it, or (D) they doubted they would ever receive Christ.

The use of a “seeker service” instead of one-on-one soul winning is man’s method, not God’s method. Even at the day of Pentecost, the thousands who heard the Gospel had not come to any service at all. Peter and the other Apostles took advantage of the crowds on the street during a Jewish feast day. They had no church building yet. In fact, in the Book of Acts, there is not one record of anyone being saved or even baptized in a church building.

It would be stretching the imagination to believe that 3,000 were baptized in the upper room.  More likely, in Acts 2, the Apostles baptized in one or more of the twelve public pools of Jerusalem.

In Acts 8, Philip preached and baptized in a city of Samaria, where no church existed yet. The Ethiopian Eunuch was baptized in an oasis in the desert in Acts 8:26-36. The Apostle Paul was baptized by Ananias in the house of a disciple named Judas in Acts 9:11-18.

Cornelius and his companions were baptized in Cornelius’ house in Acts chapter 10. Lydia and her household were baptized in a river in Acts 18:7-8.

Holding a seeker service to bring the “unchurched” to the church, then not inviting them to trust Christ as their Saviour and to be baptized immediately after salvation is not Scriptural. In the Book of Acts, those who were saved were baptized “the same day” (Acts 2:41) and “the same hour” (Acts 16:13). The non-confrontational, non-personal method of soul winning is not scriptural.

D. L. Moody once let a crowd go without pushing for a definite decision for Christ, and the next day scores of them died in the Chicago fire. Rick Warren’s salvation survey at the end of his seeker service lets sincere sinners slip out unsaved.

CULTURE OR WORLDLINESS?

The book should be titled, THE CULTURE DRIVEN CHURCH, for that is its central theme.  The basic premise of the book is that the church should adapt itself to the culture of those whom they are attempting to reach with the Gospel.

Yet, the Bible says, “come out from among them, and be ye separate…” (2 Corinthians 6:17). Jesus was “separate from sinners.” (Hebrews 7:26). In fact, separation is not on the part of the saved, but the unsaved and unspiritual, who “separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.” (Jude 19). There is a definite division in the New Testament between the lives of believers and unbelievers, the spiritual, and the carnal. Anyone can be saved, but the saved are commanded to be separate from their carnal culture.

However, Pastor Warren makes such statements as: “One of my favorite movies is…” (page 28). “I intentionally dress down to match the mindset of those I’m trying to reach.” (Page 171) “There is no such thing as ‘Christian music’, only Christian lyrics.” (Page 282)

While it is true there is no verse in the Bible specifically mentioning some of these issues, since there were no movie theaters in Peter’s day, there are some definite Bible precepts which pastor Warren has on purpose overlooked.

“I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes…” (Psalm 101:3) “Abstain from all appearance of evil…” (1 Thessalonians 5:22) “Mine eye affecteth mine heart…” (Lamentations 3:51) “…he hearth cursing and bewrayeth it not.” (Proverbs 29:24) Did Pastor Warren stand up in the middle of a movie with cursing and denounce (bewray) the bad and vile language during a movie? I wouldn’t count on it!

Pastor Warren is bringing sinners out of the world into an environment that is no different from the world. He is like King Ahaz in 2 Kings 16, who saw an altar in a pagan temple in Damascus. He liked it so much, he had the priests in Jerusalem make one just like it. He then arranged the furniture of the temple around the Syrian altar. It was there that his priests performed sacrifices.

However, it did not stop there. The people continued to model their religion after the world, until they had become wholly pagan. Hezekiah, Ahaz’s son, had to remove the high places where the people worshipped instead of at the temple, and break the idols whom they worshipped instead of God.

Go ahead, Baptist Warrenites, rearrange the furniture of the temple; it’s your children who will abandon the temple. It is your children who will worship idols. It is the men of God of the next generation who will have to evangelize your children and grandchildren.

As the adults enjoy their rock and roll in the confines of their churches, the children will develop a taste for rock music, which they will fulfill in smoke-filled arenas. As parents dress down to go to church, their children will dress down even more to go to the mall or the beach.

CONCLUSION

Pastor Warren labels our churches as “traditionalists” unwilling to give up “man-made” traditions, clinging to a few “proof-texts,” and “isolationism” that is stuck in the “culture” of the 50’s. He then encourages our young men to mix and mingle with the world, and model the next generation’s churches after the “worldly lifestyles,” abandoning such ideas as confrontational soul winning, old-fashioned church music, and modest dress standards, and especially hard-hitting preaching.

Yes, he has a crowd. Yes, he is rich. Yes, by worldly standards he is successful. However, the main question is this, “Is he right?”

Warren and other evangelicals reach into our Baptist churches and entice our young people away because they have proven themselves incapable of producing their own young people who are spiritual and who would go into the ministry.

Although they talk much about “life application,” their encouraging messages uplift the spirit without touching the soul. They minister to spiritual junkies looking for a quick fix. Because this generation cannot “endure sound doctrine”, Rick Warren has become the teacher willing to tickle their ears. (2 Timothy 4:3-5) Much like Billy Graham, Warren will impact this generation, but leave no godly heritage for the children and will ruin the orchard. Warren has given birth to the EMERGING CHURCH movement, which is nothing more than the Jesus Freaks of the 60’s.

Pardon me, but give me a Dr. Jack Hyles, who produced a second-generation and a third-generation of Christians serving God. The real proof of a church is in succeeding generations. There is rarely a second-generation Warrenite. Their children develop a taste for the worldly lifestyle by which their own pastors have taught them to live.

A church ought to be a haven from the world, not an extension of it. Baptists are being fooled by Warren’s conservative-sounding doctrine while being influenced by his worldly philosophy and lifestyles. We are to work at bringing man up to God, and not bring God down to man in our churches. The local church must be a foretaste of Heaven and not a foretaste of the world.

AMAZING GRACE!

GOD'S GRACE

Colossians 4:18, “The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen,”

II Timothy 1:2, To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Titus 1:4, “To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.”

II John 3, “Grace be with you, mercy and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Son of the Father, in truth and love.”

So often in the Scriptures you will find grace and mercy or mercy and grace being used together. Mercy and grace are not the same thing.”

Amazing grace how sweet the sound

Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus

Grace that is greater then all our sins

Mercy is God not giving us what we deserve. Grace is God giving us what we do not deserve. No place in the Bible do you find anyone who cries to God “Have grace on me!” However, over and over in the Bible you will find people crying out to God “Have mercy on me!”

What does it mean? Mercy is when God brings us back to where we were. Grace is when God give us bonuses and takes us above where we were.

Romans 5:20, “Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded grace did much more abound.”

Mercy brings you back to where you were and grace takes you beyond where you were. God does not send us to Hell and that is mercy. God does not bring us back to earth he takes us on to Heaven and that is grace.

We had an innocent body tainted by sin and we fell. God did not bring us back just to the body that was innocent in the Garden of Eden. God goes beyond that and gives us a perfect body like the body of Jesus Christ. Mercy would have given us a body like Adam and Eve possessed. Grace gives us a body like the body of Jesus has.

Mercy saves us from Hell. Grace takes us to Heaven. The thief on the cross-asked for mercy, “Remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.” Jesus’ answer was I’ll do better than that I’ll take you right now into Paradise with me!

John 3:14-16, “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”

We deserve Hell but if we trust Christ as our Saviour we can have mercy and miss Hell. Grace is not that which spares us from Hell for grace is that which takes us to Heaven.

John 5:24, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

I Peter 4:10, As every man hath received the gift, even so minster the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

The word “manifold” is only used about six things in the Bible. “Manifold” means “all kinds.” That means there all kinds of grace that God give to us. Only six times is the word “manifold” placed in front of in the Bible.

·      Manifold sins (All kinds of sin)
·      Manifold works of God (All kinds of works)
·      Manifold temptations (All kinds of temptations)
·      Manifold wisdom of God (All kinds of wisdom)
·      Manifold mercies of God (All kinds of mercies)
·      Manifold grace of God (All kinds of grace)

There are many different forms of the grace of God. God has given to his children many things that we do not deserve. The manifold mercies of God means that God has NOT given us many things that we do deserve. The manifold grace of God then means there are all kinds of things we did not deserve that God gives us.

There are so many things that God does that takes us beyond where we are. Jesus died to give us more things than we lost.

Romans 5:21, “That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Mercy says you will never have to go to Hell. Grace says you can go to Heaven. Where sin did abound grace did much more abound which means grace is all bonus. Mercy is the regular salary or pay. Jesus paid it all. Jesus died to give you mercy but now he comes along and says I’m going to take you beyond where you were.

Adam sins and Adam falls! Mercy brings Adam back to where he was while Grace takes Adam above where he was. Grace is a bunch of bonuses. God gave his children more than we deserve because we accepted Jesus’ payment for our sins.

SALVATION IS ONE OF THOSE MANIFOLD GRACES

Salvation is not just being saved from Hell. The word “salvation” simply means “salvage.” For my grace we are salvaged through faith. The mercies of God save you from Hell while your salvaged by the grace of God.

After the war C46’s and C47’s were converted into the DC3 airplane. That which was used for warfare was now salvaged and used for peacetime. Every Wednesday morning we put out our used newspapers and those papers are recycled or salvage. Not only did Jesus die to keep us from going to Hell, which is mercy, but also by his grace he makes us useable and useful. It is a shame some have only accepted the mercy of God.

One of God’s manifold graces is that he saves us or salvages us and makes us useable. Mercy saves us from Hell. Grace is where he salvages us to make a preacher, a choir director, a bus captain, a youth director, a piano player, a user, a bus director, a Sunday school teacher, or a choir member.

God’s mercy does not let you go to Hell and God salvages your soul and goes beyond just keeping you out of Hell. By God’s grace he salvages our lives and we end up co-laborers with God himself.

Will a person go to Hell listed to bad music? No, but you’ll have to go to Hell to listen to it! Will a person go to Hell for going to Hollywood movies, smoking, or drinking? What kind of Christianity is that? There is so much more to salvation. The salvaging of the soul by God’s mercy is a whole lot more to it. God is salvaging you so you can be a co-laborer with God himself and that is grace.

God gives us a bonus and that bonus is I’m going to make you a co-laborer, a Sunday school teacher, a Sunday school Superintendent, a bus captain, an usher, a deacon, a choir member, a pianist, an organist, or a preacher.

JUSTIFICATION IS ONE OF THOSE MANIFOLD GRACES

Romans 3:24, “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”

Titus 3:7, “That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

By his mercy he has forgiven us of all our sins but he give us a bonus. He takes our sins off of our record and it looks like we have never sinned at all. His mercy says he will bring you back where you were but Adam was not justified until he trusted Christ as his personal Saviour and that is grace.

Grace did not deliver you from Hell but you go to Heaven by grace. You were not forgiven by grace but you were forgiven my mercy. You were not justified by mercy rather you were justified by grace.

MANIFOLD GRACE-ACCEPTED OF THE BELOVED IS ONE OF THOSE GRACES

Ephesians 1:6, “To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”

Mercy brings me back into God’s presence. Grace takes me beyond that into the  “beloved.” Mercy brings us back to God. Grace takes us above that and puts in God.

Do we have any idea of whom we are speaking to when we pray? He is the creator of the universe, Jehovah God, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Omniscient! The God who made Dr. Lee Roberson, Dr. Jack Hyles, D. L. Moody, Spurgeon, John Rice, etc. The same God says you can have permanent access to his presence. You are by his grace in the beloved.

God could have just as easily saved you from Hell and let you flounder through life but God said not only am I going to save you from Hell by my mercy but also I’m going to by grace put you in the beloved with constant access to me!

PRAYER IS ONE OF THOSE MANIFOLD GRACES

Hebrews 4:16, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to helping time of need.”

If the Queen of England called you and asked you to come to Buckingham Palace you would be awed for sure by the invitation. The king of the universe, God of gods, Jehovah God, the lily of the valley, the fairest of 10,000, the bright and morning star, and the God who sustains the whole universe is accessible because of his grace.

THE BIBLE IS ONE OF THOSE MANIFOLD GRACES

God could have saved you from Hell and never have been compelled to give you a copy of the Scriptures his Holy Word. God did not have to give you his words. You and I could have been saved from going to Hell and left without any instructions for life.

God said by his mercy he would keep you from going to Hell but by his grace he gives you something you did not have his Bible of instructions for life. The Bible is a bonus and this is grace. Jesus did more than die to buy back all that Adam lost.

·      God’s grace salvaged us
·      God’s grace justified us
·      God’s grace made us the accepted of the beloved
·      God’s grace gave us prayer
·      God’s grace gave us his Bible

God’s children ought to shout because God did not give us what we deserved and because God gave us what we did not deserve! Mercy and grace!

ETERNAL SURPRISE PACKAGES-
ONE OF THOSE MANIFOLD GRACES

Ephesians 2:7, “That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.”

Here we were on our way to Hell and God wants to save us from Hell and that is mercy. God extends his mercy and man accepts the mercy of God. He then gives us grace or bonuses.

God has perennial eternal bonuses to give us. God has given us his word by grace, prayer by grace, to be apart of the beloved by grace, justification by grace, and salvaging by grace. God also says forever I will eternally be giving you surprise packages of bonuses of things I did not have to give you! Manifold grace of God!

SOUL WINNING IS ONE OF THOSE MANIFOLD GRACES

Ephesians 2:8-10, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

Adam was saved from going to Hell and that was mercy. God says to Adam, “You have fallen because of sin. I died to get you back and that was mercy. Adam helps me tell other fallen men of my mercy!” That is grace! God gives the redeemed a bonus of helping him win souls to him. That is God’s grace to us!

God does not need us to spread the Gospel. God through his grace has given us the bonus of soul winning.

II Corinthians 5:18, “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.”

Thank God we who are saved are not going to Hell and that is mercy but thank God we can keep others out of Hell by soul winning and that is grace!

JOBS GIVEN TO US IN THE LOCAL CHURCH ARE A PART OF MANIFOLD GRACE

I Corinthians 12:7, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”

Galatians 1:15, “But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace.”

The purpose of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is to have the local church work as unit to get the Gospel to the unsaved. Someone has to be the pastor, fix the buses, usher, play the piano, play the organ, cut the grass, lead the youth, teach Sunday school, sing in the choir, work the altar, type the letters, or be the bookkeeper.

God did not have to do one single thing listed. God would still be right and righteous if he had never given us his mercy let alone his grace. He keeps us out of when he did not have to and that is mercy.

All ten of the things listed have nothing to do with going to Hell. These are the manifold grace of God.

BEING ABLE TO BEAR BURDENS IS A PART OF MANIFOLD GRACE

II Corinthians 12:9, “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Mercy keeps us from going to Hell. Grace gives us something extra and that is help with our burdens.

WHATEVER WE ARE IS A PART OF HIS MANIFOLD GRACE

I Corinthians 15:10, “But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.”

All of us deserve to burn in Hell forever and if all that God did was keep us out of Hell by his mercy that would be more than we deserve. However, God loves us and he enjoys giving to us things we do not deserve to have.

When you love you give and when you love you keep on giving. Jesus did not die to give you the Bible. He died to keep you out of Hell. God could have stopped with mercy! God loves us so much that he gives us bonuses and continues to give us bonuses for eternity.

GOTTA LOVE THE GRACE OF GOD!
